Q: Have you ever done burlesque?
A: That's a big nope! I 100% acknowledge I don't have the confidence to get on stage and shimmy. While I've taken a class and danced as a kid, I would never in a million years consider myself a dancer. Additionally, I'm incredibly clumsy and uncoordinated.
Q: What gives you the right to criticize something you can't do?
A: I'm nothing more than an audience member, and my opinions are simply that from the perspective of someone who enjoys going to the shows.
Q: How can you give an honest review if you're friendly with the dancers?
A: That's a great question. I don't know if I can. I guess we'll see.
Q: Do you even know about the history/influences/etc. of burlesque?
A: Actually, yes! I'm obsessive when I get interested in something and absorb everything about it. All the books, scholarly articles, cultural references - I WANT ALL THE THINGS. Of course, there's tons I don't know. No one can know everything (even those who think you do!), but I know a lot. I'm learning more all the time.
Q: Why so much that's not a review/thought on burlesque?
A: Sometimes, I just want to review makeup, give my thoughts on lingerie, etc. However! I see it as related. Dancers wear makeup. Every third dancer I see is in the plus size range, and they wear lingerie on stage. It's a thing. I like pretty things, let's move on.
List will continue as questions come up.
